seven years in Thailand...

"We live in illusion and the appearance of things. There is a reality. We are that reality. When you understand this, you see that you are nothing, and being nothing, you are everything. That is all.".- buddhism proverb

Welcome to Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan Temple...please remove your shoes

This temple is situated on the west bank of the Bang Pakong River, 2 Kms. south of the city hall. Enshrined in a new gigantic hall is Phra Phutthasothon, or "Luang Pho Sothon" regarded as one of the most revered Buddha images in Thailand. The image, in the attitude of meditation, measuring 1.65 metres wide at the lap and 1.98 metres high, is always seen entirely pasted with gold leaves by worshipers. Two annual fairs celebrating the image fall in the 5th and the 12th lunar months (around April and November).

The new tall ubosoth of Sothorn Wararam Waravihan temple never fails to attract the attention of visitors. After 15 years in construction, the graceful and huge ubosoth is nearly complete. It mirrors the strong faith of the local people in Buddhism. The peak is 84 metres high. It is decorated with five golden umbrellas weighing a total of 77 kilogrammes. This is probably the world's largest ubosoth.

Worshippers come from far around to pay homage to Luang Pho Sathorn and a large group of 20 other Buddha images. Thai dancers are on hand every day to perform for a small donation

According to legend, Luang Pho Sothon, floated down the Bang Pakong River to the site of the temple. Efforts to retrieve it were unsuccessful until a villager had a small shrine erected on the site and performed a ceremony welcoming the image to the community.

Dear Crazy Drile and Amy:

What a big emotion for me see you there, where the time has no passed, where you can "touch" the energy, where the respect for the divinity is wonderful and the wisdom of the big teachers of the life have left his footprints.
All is illuminated in the Temple.

I send you all my love. You know that my soul is with both of you.
Thanks for sharing us your beautiful experience.

Awesome trip....the temples here just amazing! no words... just like a Spielberg or Lukas dream...
Really I think Thailand was the inspiration for movies like Starwars, Predator and Alien... just the food or the animals look like from Another Planet!!! the colors, texture and sounds...the air and the spirit is an inspiration every second...

Im really glad that you are enjoying the Asian Chapters...for the next days you will see Thailand culture and way of life, and coming soon Hong Kong, China, Macau, Kuala Lampur and More....

Compass tips:

Movies like James Bond, Rambo, Tomb Rider, predator, the beach, Around the World in Eighty Days, The Big Boss, The Man with the Golden Gun,The Deer Hunter, Good Morning Vietnam, Casualties of War and The Killing Fields...was filmed here

Hollywood has played an important role in the development of Thailand's film industry. One of the first feature films made in Thailand, 1923's Miss Suwanna of Siam, was a Hollywood co-production, made with the royal assistance of King Vajiravudh, who gave the production free use of his 52 automobiles, 600 horses, use of the Royal Thai Navy, the Grand Palace, the railways, the rice mills, rice fields, coconut groves, canals and elephants

Hola Crazy Drile:

Hello Ricardo and Amy

Ayutthaya is very nice place , and also good view in the center of Thailand.

The elephant or so call " Chang" in Thai is the mascot of Thailand .

We respect Chang as the old historical animal .
